Managing your finances is especially important when you’re a student. At D&A we are here to support you through this process.

Funding is subject to certain qualifying criteria as defined by Scottish Funding Council policies and Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS) including residence requirements and personal circumstances, e.g. household income, marital status.

There are different funding options available depending on the age of the student at the official start date of the course, the level of course and whether you are studying full-time or part-time.

You need to apply for funding every year that you are attending College. Your funding application will be assessed and then you will be issued with an award letter indicating your award and your payment details.

The Scottish Government has created a website to find information on funding: Student Information Scotland.

If you need further advice or guidance please email guidance@dundeeandangus.ac.uk and one of our advisors will be able to assist you.

Please apply as early as possible once funding is open for applications.

Application for Bursary/EMA funding for courses starting in August/September 2023 is now open.

Additional Funding and Support

Additional funding may also be available to assist with registered childcare and with discretionary funding – e.g. accommodation, travel expenses, emergencies. If you are struggling with any aspect of your budget, please come and speak to us, as you may be entitled to access some additional funding.

We can also advise you on how you can access the range of services we offer as part of our Thrive Project, including access to our free or low cost breakfast and lunch clubs, our Thrive shops, where everything is free and our food bank.

Council Tax

I’m a student, so I don’t have to pay Council tax, right?

Well, maybe.   Most students don’t have to pay Council Tax, but there are situations where a student will be liable to pay. If you own or rent the property (not including Halls of Residence)  that you live in then it is likely that you will be liable for Council Tax – whether or not you have to pay anything depends on whether or not you qualify for a discount or an exemption.  However, this does not happen automatically – you need still to apply for your discount or exemption.  If you don’t apply for this you will be billed for the full amount.

If you think that you don’t have to pay Council Tax, you can apply for a discount/exemption by completing the appropriate form available from the Council:

Dundee City Council – click to complete the online Student Discount/Exemption Form

Perth & Kinross Council – click to download the Student Certificate (Application for Council tax discount) Form

Angus Council – click to download the Student Supplementary Form

Some local authorities require confirmation that you are a student. If you are eligible you will be able to download this via MyD&A Life after your start date. You may need to print this off and send it to your local authority. To find out how to do this, please watch the short video below.

How can I pay my fees?

We offer a direct debit facility for some of our courses that are over £200 and more than 6 months in duration.  If you would like to pay by direct debit, please email our finance team: income@dundeeandangus.ac.uk
